The presence of lakes and water bodies in and around urban areas is so very important to maintain a balanced ecosystem especially when these areas are being rapidly developed. But unfortunately, the few lakes that survive this ‘development’ end up facing the brunt of it – most turn into bodies of polluted water.
Varthur lake in the outskirts of Bengaluru is one such lake that has paid the cost for the increase of population in India’s IT hub. Harsh, a high school student from the city, and a nature enthusiast set out to make a video report on this issue — he documents the current state of the lake and the factors that are polluting it. He makes an impassioned plea to sit up and take notice of Varthur lake’s condition and the effect it is having on life around it. Watch his video here:
